Christian Life Center

hdr-lifecenter

The purpose of the Activities Ministry of Abilene Baptist Church is to provide opportunities for members and their invited guests to participate in character-building leisure activities conducted in a Christian setting with Spirit-filled leadership. All programs, events, and leadership will focus on leading the lost to Christ, challenging believers to a closer communion with Him, and promoting fellowship within the local body of believers.

General Information

Participation/Membership

Use of the Abilene Christian Life Center is open to members of Abilene Baptist Church and their guests. Continued use will depend upon the individual’s willingness to abide by all policies and procedures.

Any under-age child must be accompanied by a responsible adult. (Note: An under-aged child is an individual who is under the age of 13. A responsible adult is an individual who is 18 years of age or older and is a member of Abilene Baptist Church)

When under-aged children are present as a special group or for a special program, the group sponsor is responsible for the proper number of adult supervisors.

Guests are those individuals who are not members of Abilene Baptist Church, but who are hosted by a member. A member may bring a maximum of two (2) guests. This allows for more opportunities to develop relationships between Abilene members and their guests.

Members are encouraged to bring guests.  All guests must abide by the policies and procedures. Guests may leave before their host member leaves, but they may not stay after their host member leaves. Host members are responsible for the conduct of their guests.

Visitors are individuals who are outside groups such as teams from other churches or spectators with other church teams. Visitors are to remain in the particular area where their group is participating and do not have access to the entire facility.

Dress and Behavior

The Abilene Family Life Center is a ministry of Abilene Baptist Church for use by members and invited guests. Because of the desire to honor God in every aspect of our lives, Abilene asks that you adhere to the following areas of our visible witness as you participate in this ministry.

Modesty as a Model

As we strengthen our temple (body) that God has blessed us with through exercise and fellowship, it is asked that appropriate gym attire be worn at all times. Clothing must be modest and in good taste in its appearance. Shoes and loose fitting shirts and shorts must be worn in public areas at all times. There shall be no spaghetti straps, no inappropriate messages, no halters, no exposed midriffs, no low cut fronts, sleeveless shirts must cover the upper body and underclothing. No shorts or short “skorts” will be allowed. Spandex or other tight material should only be worn under cover-ups. Very loose fitting shorts must be worn with compression shorts, cycle shorts or something similar underneath. No low-rise pants (hips and abdomen should be covered when seated or standing). No short skirts (all skirts should be close to the knee length). Only proper court shoes will be allowed on the gym floors. Skated, cleats, turf shoes, and black-soled shoes are not permitted.

Facility

Fitness Areas

The Christian Life Center has two fitness rooms.  A weight room containing both free weights as well as Cybex weight machines, and a cardio room that contains treadmills, elliptical machines and stationary bikes.  The equipment is designed to build strength and cardiovascular endurance.

Each person is encouraged to meet with a staff member for an orientation session prior to using the equipment.  Each piece of equipment gives specific instructions for proper use.

Paper towels and disinfectant spray are available to wipe down equipment after use.

Please report any unsafe or improperly functioning equipment to the front desk.

Individuals who are 13-17 years of age may use the equipment after signing in and submitting a parental consent form to the front desk.

Locker / Dressing Rooms

These areas are designed for use in conjunction with the total facility.  Lockers may be used by members, guests, and visitors using the facility.  Lockers are for “day use” only.  Day is defined as use for 1 day only.  A key to the locker may be checked out for use by the participant from the front desk.   The Activities Ministry and volunteers are not responsible for articles left in lockers.

Walking Track

The walking track is located on the second floor.  The track is designated for walking or jogging.  Everyone must walk in the same direction.  Track direction signs will be posted.  Only proper running / walking shoes will be allowed.  Turf shoes will not be permitted on the track.  Athletic equipment such as balls are not permitted on the track.  Nothing may be thrown from the track to the gym floor or vice versa.  Strollers are allowed on the track during non peak times only.  16 laps = 1 mile.

 Sports

 Youth Sports

The Abilene Christian Life Center offers two opportunities for children to participate in Upward team sports. In Upward Sports the focus is on Christ rather than winning and losing.  During each and every practice time players not only get to practice their skills but they also hear the word of God during the required devotion time.  Devotions are also given at the half-time of each game.  Teams are limited to one practice and one game per week so participants do not get overwhelmed, and parents do not get over-worked

Upward Soccer – Abilene offers participants a twist on the fastest growing sport in the country.  We bring the game inside and play indoor soccer.  Children ages 5-12 have the chance to participate in the confines of the Abilene Christian Life Center where the weather is always perfect and the bugs never bite.  Registration begins in November and runs through the first of January.  The season begins in late  August and finishes in October.  With the registration fee participants receive a t-shirt, jersey, shorts, socks, a water bottle, car magnet, and an end of the season gift.

Upward Basketball & Cheerleading -  Upward basketball and cheerleading is open to children ages 5-15.  Registration begins in late September and runs through November.  Games are played early December through the middle of February.  Participants in Upward Basketball receive a t-shirt, game jersey, shorts, car magnet, and an end of the season gift.  Upward Cheerleaders receive a cheerleading uniform, pom-poms, a megaphone, and an end of the season award.

Abilene Baptist Church offers adults the opportunity to form teams in the following sports:

Men’s & Women’s Softball – played in the spring.

Men’s Basketball – played in the winter.

Soon to come Church League Bowling.
